Risk Management Essentials (RME) has recently partnered with Heart180 and shares the same passion and belief as the Director Guy Leech on the importance of defibrillators (defib) and their availability.
We want to raise the education levels around critical heart care, so all realise how easy and safe defibrillators are to use and have readily available.
General Facts and Statistics:
In Australia, around 30,000 people suffer a Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) each year (that is around 100 people per day and of all ages). Only around 6% of these people survive because there wasn’t a defib close by. If you can get a defib on the patient in the first 180 seconds you increase the chance of survival to over 70%!
Without a defibrillation, for every minute that passes, the chance of survival is reduced by 10%. Application of pads on patient within 180 seconds increases the survival rate to over 70%. With good CPR and a defib up to 90% survival rate.
